My Fresh Squeezin's (Blogger)

Ahh, the freshly squozen thoughts of Dalum. I try to post as often as I can, but sometimes life is just too busy to get stuff out in a reasonable amount of time. Please enjoy my random thoughts and drop me a line if you like.

2/20/2006 02:45:00 PM - Weekend update

Let's see...  stuff to talk about...

Snowflake Ball - This is the annual Daddy Daughter dance that the Girl Scouts of Mitten Bay put on.  (It's just Midland area, not all of the Mitten Bay folks.)  It was OK this year.  The big deal about this year's event is the fact that there was this insane ice storm that finally brought winter around in these here parts.  This left the whole Tri-Cities looking the most beautiful ever, but many without power.  This lack of power went as far as the facility that was hosting this year's dance.  From the little girl's perspective...  There's nothing like getting all done up, walkup to a gigantic place and get greeted by this blaring generator spewing forth exhaust.  All attendants smelled awesome.  So with the purfume of a trucker going on we were greeted by a lovely handwritten sign that said some thing to the effect of:  "The *fill in the blank for the facility name* is without power.  We do have generators available running for the lights and such, but heat is limited."  Now this may not be verbatim, but it's essentially pretty damn close.  We walked in the front door felt that, though removing the wind factor, it wasn't much better temp-wise.  They said it was better for everyone to go into the gym area as it "seems" warmer in there.  What they were doing was corralling everyone into one area so the body heat would collect.  Poor exectution of this event.  It should have been reschedueled.  Everybody was cold.  The organizers didn't seem to happy, but they did their jobs well.  The DJ didn't seem very DJ-ee since he had to be there either.  At least Genji's in Saginaw was a great time.  That made everything go away.

Paranoia runs wild and free - I can't believe some people.  Isn't it funny how people will find ways to point fingers just to cover their asses?

"Well, that's not my problem since it was Person X's project.  Now I'm going to go and hover over everyone to look important!"

Damn, I hate micro-management.  That was the word that got rave reviews during my interview with this place.  It still seems to happen.  Not for long if things keep going on here like they are.

Annual Meeting/Dinner/Report - So I'm in charge of running the publication (report) for this meeting and dinner.  Along with the Report, I'm helping out with the other 2/3 to help keep everything running smoothly.  It's like getting getting 4 people to agree on damn pizza toppings.

Here are some of the great excuses for why we can't go to one place or another:
(No particular order)
  1. It's too far away
  2. It's going to be in a bad area
  3. The weather MIGHT be bad
  4. It's too dark out there
  5. They serve pizza there
  6. I'm not impressed with the people there
  7. I don't like the style OR the color!
  8. It's too expensive (we are not topping $20 mind you...)
  9. We used them already
  10. They havn't bothered to call me back, we don't need 'em.
  11.
  12. Profit!
They seem to be some of the dumbest excuses I've heard.  I've done conventions and nobody bats an eye to $30+ for a private dinner of the same calibur.  This somehow doesn't mean jack to the faux-pizza toppings that we have to agree on.  On top off all of this...  All the articles I told everyone that need to be in today, aren't.  I've got in the range of 1/4 of them.  I have to start dealing with the layout soon and I can't do that if I don't have all the articles.  ugh...
