My Fresh Squeezin's (Blogger)

Ahh, the freshly squozen thoughts of Dalum. I try to post as often as I can, but sometimes life is just too busy to get stuff out in a reasonable amount of time. Please enjoy my random thoughts and drop me a line if you like.

2/02/2005 09:33:00 AM - More Slashdot News

Here's something that may be a little more disturbing when you start
thinking about it...

EFF Asks How Big Brother Is Watching The Internet
MacDork writes "The EFF filed a FOIA request yesterday with the FBI
and other offices of the US DOJ regarding expanded powers granted by
the USA PATRIOT Act. The EFF is making the request in an attempt to
find out whether or not Section 216 is being used to monitor web
browsing without a warrant. The DOJ has already stated they can
collect email and IP addresses, but has not been forthcoming on the
subject of URL addresses. It seems the EFF is seeking any
documentation to confirm such activity is taking place. One can only
hope the automated FOIA search doesn't produce any false negatives or
cost the EFF $372,999."

The part where they are talking about searching without a warrant is
pretty disturbing.

2/02/2005 09:21:00 AM - I've got a TON of Gmail invites!

I was checking them out last night and noticed that I still had a few
invites and was trying to pawn them off on my nephew while we were
chatting. I just noticed that I don't have the invite thing at the
top of my screen anymore. I DID notice that I have a box at the
bottom of my left boarder that says Invite a Friend. It also says 50
left! I went from 5 invites (I had the normal batch of 6 but gave one
to Nyracat's co-worker) to 50! So if anyone that reads this wants in,
feel free to email me at (gmail at dalum dot net) and I'll get an
account invite sent to you. I may have another 50 in my other Gmail
account too. What the hell am I going to do with 100 invites? LOL!

2/01/2005 05:35:00 PM - Still looking for work...

The ball sucking epic continues. I've been looking for a job since
the beginning of the year and have only managed to land 1 job that I
want that doesn't have a decent pay and another job that I don't want
that also doesn't have decent pay. I got turned down for the job that
I wanted to do during the day so now I'm back on the market again
scouring the web for a place to call work. God this sucks. On top of
the job thing, my severance was delayed because the jackhole that gave
me specific info to fill into severance paperwork was incorrect. So
I was on the phone for 45 minutes listening to hold music for a 10
minute call. At least they faxed me the proper paperwork and info so
now I can get my money. I'm stressing because I need to get bills
paid and I'm out of cash. I need to make it down ot Lansing for my
Martial Arts teaching job and I don't have any gas either. Seriously,
no gas. Not like the normal "Oh no my gas light is on so I'll drive
for another 20 or so miles" no gas, my car isn't even working on
fumes. Oh well. Such is life right now. I'll get through this like
I do with everything else. It's just stressful.

1/31/2005 01:44:00 PM - Owning dinosaurs is easier than collecting fossils in Animal Crossing

I bought these things, for Fresh, called Triops from a store the other day. They are just like Sea Monkies but they get huge. Average size for them is about 1-3 inches. They look like Plecos but with an exoskeleton. We are on Day 3 currently. From the day of hatching there were about 10-15 of them. Survival of the fittest took it's toll and from what I can tell, there are about 4-5 left. They are much bigger than the ones that were there even from Day 2. The instructions say that they will double in size daily and will last from 20-90 days. About a month to 3 is a pretty good lifespan for most things like this. Full blown Tirops are kinda creepy looking. For just over $3 it's a great project for families and younger class schools to do. I dig it!
